In Newfield's small but vibrant community, few families embody the spirit of Girl Scouting quite like the Britt family. For Jennifer Britt, Girl Scout leader and mother of four, Girl Scouting has become more than just an after-school activity; it’s a way of life. Jennifer leads a multi-level Girl Scout Troop with her daughters by her side, forging bonds that transcend generations.
Jennifer’s commitment to Girl Scouting has made a profound impact on the girls in her Troop, including her two daughters, Isabella and Scarlett. The Troop made up of girls from various age groups, is a testament to Jennifer’s dedication to ensuring that no Girl Scout is left behind, even when other leaders step down, or Troops disband. Jennifer merged the girls into one cohesive unit, creating a space where they could continue to experience the opportunities, friendships, and life lessons that Girl Scouting offers.
The Britt family’s connection to Girl Scouting deepened further with the birth of Jennifer’s youngest daughter, Juliette, who was born on October 31, 2023—coincidentally the same day as Juliette Gordon Low’s birthday, the founder of the Girl Scouts. For Jennifer and her family, this timing felt like a sign affirming their commitment to the values of Girl Scouting: leadership, service, and community.
This summer, Jennifer’s Troop 56388 has worked hard on a project close to their hearts: creating birthday boxes for children in shelters. As part of their efforts to earn the Girl Scout Bronze Award, the highest honor for their level, the girls collected donations of cake mix, candles, decorations, and even handmade bracelets and cards to ensure that children relying on food banks can still celebrate their special day. This project highlights the importance of giving back to the community and reflects the practical life skills and empathy that Girl Scouting instills.
But for the Britt family, Girl Scouting is about more than just earning badges and awards. It’s about creating a supportive network where young girls can grow into confident women, understand their self-worth, and develop the skills they need to thrive. Jennifer’s leadership has helped foster a sense of sisterhood within her Troop, and the bonds formed extend beyond the girls themselves, encompassing their families and the broader community.
Local businesses and community members have an important role to play in supporting the Girl Scout mission. By partnering with or sponsoring Troops like Jennifer’s, they can help ensure that girls in our community continue to have opportunities to learn, grow, and give back. The Britt family’s story serves as a reminder of the powerful impact that Girl Scouting can have on individuals and communities alike, building a brighter future for the next generation of leaders.

Through programs, Girl Scouts of all backgrounds and abilities can be unapologetically themselves as they discover their strengths and rise to meet new challenges—whether they want to climb to the top of a tree or the top of their class, lace up their boots for a hike or advocate for climate justice, or make their first best friends. Backed by trusted adult volunteers, mentors, and millions of alums, Girl Scouts lead the way as they find their voices and make changes that affect the issues most important to them.
