MOORESTOWN, N.J. — The spirited Daisy Girl Scouts of Troop 24783 are championing a life-saving initiative that reflects their commitment to community heart health awareness. These young Girl Scouts of Central and Southern New Jersey, representing future leaders, have taken on a mission to ensure Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are available on local sports fields, where community members gather to play and enjoy sports.

After learning about the critical role AEDs play in saving lives during sudden cardiac arrest, the girls noticed a significant shortfall in their availability at local sports arenas and fields. Collaborating with Moorestown’s Parks and Recreation Department, the Girl Scouts identified a need for 15 AEDs to cover all local fields adequately.

With support from Simon's Heart, a nonprofit dedicated to preventing sudden cardiac arrest in children, Troop 24783 learned the cost of these crucial devices and what is needed for their maintenance and accessibility.

Energized by the desire to make a difference in their community, the Girl Scouts, with the help of their troop leaders, initiated discussions with local sports clubs to raise awareness and garner support for the project. In an inspiring move, they decided to allocate a portion of their Girl Scout cookie sales to purchase an AED for one of the town’s fields.

This initiative by the Daisy Girl Scouts aims to safeguard the health of their peers and families in Moorestown. It is a testament to how even the youngest members of our community can lead significant change and encourage more families to engage in local Girl Scouting activities.

The Girl Scouts also created a video to promote the project and their cookie sales, which helped fund the initiative. Click here to view it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1X7O-lrGmA
