Foundation Stone Laid for FORCIT's New TNT Production Facility

Laying the foundation stone of the new TNT factory.

Construction of FORCIT's new TNT production facility has reached an important milestone with the laying of the foundation stone. The ceremony was held at the construction site near the location of the future office building.

The foundation stone of FORCIT’s new TNT production facility in Noormarkku, Pori, was laid on Tuesday, 15 September 2026. Speakers at the event included Minister of Employment Matias Marttinen, Mayor of Pori Lauri Inna and FORCIT CEO Joakim Westerlund.

“The laying of the foundation stone is a tangible step toward the completion of the production facility. The new TNT production facility will strengthen national security of supply and the capability of the defence industry at a time when demand for explosives has increased significantly across Europe. The project reflects FORCIT’s commitment to high safety standards, strong expertise, and the responsible manufacture of explosives,” says CEO Joakim Westerlund.

The project has progressed according to schedule. Construction work began in summer 2026 after the City of Pori granted the first-phase building permits for the project. Construction started with the fencing of the approximately 50-hectare production area. Several production, storage, and office buildings will be constructed on the site, and foundation work for the first buildings is already underway.

“There is a significant need to increase explosives production capacity in Europe. The production facility being built in Noormarkku responds to this need by strengthening the availability of TNT and supporting the reliability of defence industry supply chains,” Westerlund says.

During the ceremony, a time capsule was placed within the foundation stone. The capsule contains a charter document, newspapers from the day of the ceremony, a guest list and current coins as a memento for future generations.
