Tamron continues to develop exciting lenses for the Fujifilm X-mount system. Today they announce the release of the popular 150-500mm F/5-6.7 Di III VC VXD telephoto lens for Fuji, which quickly became the favourite of many Sony photographers when it was released a year ago.
The 150-500mm F/5-6.7 Di III VC VXD is the perfect choice for shooting action sports, wildlife, and birds. Although it reaches the ultra-telephoto focal length equivalent of 750mm, the 150-500mm F/5-6.7 is still quite compact in size with a length of just 209.9mm and a maximum diameter of 93mm. Even when extended fully to the telephoto end, the length of the lens is only 284.9mm so it can be used comfortably.
On the lens you'll find many exciting functions that facilitate photography where there is a lot of action such as a Flex zoom lock, built in Arca-swiss quick release and Tamron’s fast VXD AF linear focus motor.
Flex zoom lock mechanism lets the photographer instantly lock the lens into any zoom position by sliding the zoom ring back and forth.
This prevents unintentional movement of the lens barrel due to the weight of the lens. A conventional zoom lock switch is also installed to prevent the lens barrel from sliding down under its own weight while being carried. The quick-release is Arca Swiss compatible and the grip shape is designed for easy holding. It´s made of magnesium to reduce weight which in turn reduces the burden of hand-held and features a strap attachment hole. Weight of the lens is 1,710g without tripod mount and 1865g with.
The 150-500mm features the highly acclaimed VXD AF linear motor focus mechanism that delivers a high-speed and high-precision movement and ensures exceedingly responsive performance.
Even when shooting at the telephoto end, the 150-500mm provides fast, comfortable and accurate focusing at all shooting distances, from near to far.
Focus tracking has been vastly improved to facilitate capturing fast-moving subjects, for example sporting events, birds and wildlife photography. This ensures that those dramatic, action-packed moments are never missed, whether shooting still photos or video. Additionally, the linear motor also reduces drive noise and vibrations produced during focusing making it ideal for shooting both still photos and video in low-noise environments.
The lens features Tamrons popular VC mode facilitates handheld photography during a longer time and allows you to switch between three settings (Mode 1: Standard, Mode 2: Exclusively for Panning, and Mode 3: Framing Priority). This functionality delivers excellent image stabilization performance, enabling efficient reduction of image blurring caused by camera shake.
Optical construction consists of 25 elements in 16 groups including one XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion), five LD (Low Dispersion), and two Hybrid Aspherical lens elements that thoroughly controls aberrations including axial chromatic aberrations. Lenses features Tamrons famous BBAR-G2 coating that suppresses ghosting and flare to a minimum and helps to boost details in the picture. And because the 150-500mm F/5-6.7 is designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras, it delivers extremely high image quality and overall performance across the entire zoom range, in the center and from edge-to-edge.
The lens features an MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 0.6m at 150mm wide-angle end, and 1.8m at the 500mm telephoto end. A moisture-resistant construction and fluorine coating ensures use even in harsh weather conditions.
