The Tamron 70-180mm F2.8 has been a favourite of many photographers since it was released a little more than three years ago and today Tamron announces an update packed with exciting features, Tamron 70-180mm F/2.8 Di III VC VXD G2.
The new lens includes several improvements, with perhaps the biggest news being the introduction of Tamron's acclaimed VC mechanism. The incorporation of image stabilization in the lens is a welcome addition for photographers and filmmakers alike as it effectively reduces the unintentional shaking that can occur when shooting at longer focal lengths or when shooting without tripod in dim lighting or at slow shutter speeds.
Besides image stabilization the new lens also features a new optical design that will boost image quality over the entire zoom range. Thanks to the new optical design MOD has been reduced to 0.3m at the wide end compared to the first-generation 0.85m and lets users enjoy tele-macro photography with a dramatic bokeh.
Autofocus is designed to be quiet yet extremely fast and accurate with Tamron's linear focus engine, VXD. The advanced autofocus combines speed and precision, enabling accurate focus for both photographers and videographers at all focal lengths.
The lens is compatible with both Tamron Lens Utility and Tamron Lens Utility Mobile. With the software the user can customize the lens functions depending on shooting styles and change functions such as A-B focus, focus presets and ring functions among others.
A new lens design improves operability, provides scratch resistance and has a moisture-resistant construction with a fluorine coating to ensure safe use even in harsh weather conditions. Despite all the upgrades, Tamron has succeeded in making a compact and lightweight lens that only weighs 855g, which is just 40g more than the first generation.
