Tamron announces a new versatile ultra-telephoto zoom

Tamron 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD

The new Tamron 50-400mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD creates an entirely new category for high-performance ultra-telephoto mirrorless zoom lenses.

This new ultra-telephoto zoom lens for Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras comes in the same size as conventional 100-400mm zoom lenses, yet the 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 covers the standard 50mm and stretches all the way to 400mm at the ultra-telephoto end that offers an unmatched level of versatility comparing to conventional 100-400mm zoom.

The new lens features a improved texture and has a remarkably compact design with a length of just 183.4mm and a light weight of 1,155g. It has a moisture-resistant construction to ensure use even in harsh weather conditions and the front surface of the lens element is coated with a protective fluorine compound that is water- and oil-repellant. The coating makes the lens surface easier to wipe clean and is less vulnerable to the damaging effects of dirt, dust, moisture and fingerprints.

With a superior optical construction that consist of 24 elements in 18 groups2 XLD, 3 LD and 2 Aspherical lens elements the lens produces an outstanding image quality throughout the entire 50-400mm zoom range.

Users can also enjoy half-macro shooting with an MOD of 0.25m and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2 at the 50mm zoom setting.

The lens is equipped with Tamron´s proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism that effectively controls camera shake that can occur when shooting at telephoto focal lengths. It also helps reduce fuzzy pictures when shooting handheld in low-light conditions or at slower shutter speeds.

Autofocus is swift and accurate and features the renowned VXD linear motor focus mechanism. This advanced AF mechanism combines speed and precision, enabling fast and accurate focusing tracking though entire zoom range.

Firmware can be updated via the waterproof connector port and the lens is compatible with Tamrons Lens Utility software that lets the user customize the lens with unique functions such as focus limiter, A-B focus and focus presets among others.
