Sirui Swift: Lightweight full-frame lenses made to go everywhere

Sirui Swift LensesSirui Swift Lenses

Two compact full-frame primes for Sony E and L-Mount, with STM autofocus, a clicked aperture ring and a weight from 207 g

Sirui introduces the Swift series, two compact autofocus prime lenses for full-frame mirrorless cameras. The Swift 20mm F2.4 is an ultra-wide lens for landscapes, architecture, street photography and vlogging. The Swift 40mm F2.2 has a natural angle of view for portraits, street scenes and everyday photography.

Two focal lengths in one compact format

The Swift series expands Sirui's range of full-frame autofocus lenses. The two lenses share the same outer format, with a diameter of about 69.5 mm, a length of 60 to 62 mm and a 58 mm filter thread. The weight is between 207 g and 215 g, depending on lens and mount.

• Swift 20mm F2.4. The 20mm lens has a diagonal angle of view of 91.5 degrees. The minimum focus distance is 0.2 m, with a maximum magnification of 0.136x. This allows close-up images where the background stays visible in the frame. The lens is intended for landscapes, architecture, interiors, group photos and vlogging at arm's length.

• Swift 40mm F2.2. The 40mm lens has a diagonal angle of view of 55.86 degrees and offers a natural-looking field of view. The minimum focus distance is 0.4 m, with a maximum magnification of 0.14x. The lens is intended for portraits, street photography, travel and detail images. At F2.2, the lens separates the subject from the background and works in low light.

On Sony APS-C cameras, the 20mm lens gives an angle of view equivalent to about 30 mm, and the 40mm lens gives an angle of view equivalent to about 60 mm.

Optical design and features

Both lenses uses a all-glass optical construction that is designed for consistent performance and long-term durability.

The Swift 20mm F2.4 has 11 elements in 9 groups. These include two aspherical elements, two ED (extra-low dispersion) elements and two HRI (high refractive index) elements. The Swift 40mm F2.2 has 11 elements in 8 groups, including one aspherical element and two ED elements.

The aspherical elements correct spherical aberration and distortion and reduce the weight of the lens. The ED elements reduce chromatic aberration for accurate color reproduction. The HRI elements in the 20mm lens improve light transmission and reduce stray light, for higher contrast. Both lenses have a 9-blade aperture, which gives rounded out-of-focus highlights and a soft bokeh. The aperture range is F2.4 or F2.2 to F16.

The autofocus uses an STM stepping motor for quiet and smooth focusing, and works with the camera's autofocus modes, including eye detection. Low focus breathing and low distortion keep focus transitions natural in video, and the 360-degree focus ring allows precise manual focusing. Each lens has a clicked aperture ring, an AF/MF switch and a customizable Fn button for AF lock or other camera functions. The weather-resistant construction protects the lens against dust, stains and splashes.
