Peak Design introduces the Pro Tripod Series: three professional-grade carbon fiber tripods that support heavy camera rigs while maintaining compact packed dimensions.
Developed in collaboration with Jimmy Chin, an Academy Award–winning filmmaker and National Geographic photographer known for documenting extreme climbing expeditions and directing the film Free Solo, the new Pro Series builds on Peak Design’s original Travel Tripod, which redefined the category in 2019 by introducing an inverted leg design that eliminated wasted space between folded legs. This geometry reduced packed volume by 45% compared to traditional tripods without compromising stability.
The new Pro Series applies this same space-efficient architecture to professional-level specifications. The tripods ( Pro and Pro Tall) can support loads up to 18.1 kg—double the capacity of the original Travel Tripod—while packing down to under 53 cm. The series launched via Kickstarter earlier this year, raising more than $4,5 million from over 5500 backers.
The Pro Tripod line consists of three carbon fiber models, each optimized for specific use cases:
All models support heavy loads and professional use thanks to their CNC-machined aluminium hub and 3K carbon fiber construction—a significant increase from the 9.1 kg capacity of Peak Design’s original Travel Tripod.
Integrated video functionality
Each Pro Tripod features the new Pro Ball Head with built-in fluid panning capability. The head incorporates a locking ring for ball movement, a separate pan lock and a safety toggle to prevent accidental release, while maintaining 15 degrees of articulation even when stowed for compact packing.
The optional Tilt Mod accessory instantly converts any Pro Tripod into a professional fluid video head. Features include adjustable fluid drag, a spring-loaded counterbalance supporting cameras up to 4.5 kg and an extendable handle for precise control. The module attaches in seconds using the same mounting interface as cameras and packs small enough to fit in a lens pouch.
The new Pro Leveling Base accessory provides 15 degrees of leveling adjustment without repositioning the legs—essential on uneven terrain. Its 3/8-inch mounting thread accommodates third-party video heads, gimbals and specialized mounting systems.
Construction uses sustainable materials, including recycled aluminium and responsibly sourced carbon fiber. All components are user-serviceable, with replacement parts and repair guides available.
