Tamron boosts Nikon's Z-mount system with the new Tamron 50-400 mm F/4,5-6,3 Di III VC VXD ultra-telephoto zoom. The lens is already available for Sony E-mount where it has become a popular lens for users who want a compact telephoto lens with high performance.
The new lens is a perfect match for Nikon Z´s compact mirrorless cameras and covers both the standard 50mm and reaches 400mm at the ultra-telephoto end, surpassing the flexibility of traditional 100-400mm zoom lenses. The wide zoom range makes the lens equally suitable for photographing or filming everything from street and portraits to sports and wildlife.
Despite its extensive zoom range, the lens is remarkably compact, with a length of just 185.8 mm and a weight of 1,180 g. It features a moisture-resistant construction, making it reliable even in harsh weather conditions. The front element is coated with fluorine, which repels water and oil, making it easier to clean and more resistant to dirt, dust, moisture, and fingerprints.
The new lens has the same superior optical construction as the Sony version and consist of 24 elements in 18 groups with 2 XLD, 3 LD and 2 Aspherical lens elements that produces an outstanding image quality throughout the entire zoom range. Users can also enjoy half-macro shooting with an MOD of 0.25m and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2 at the 50mm zoom setting.
The lens is equipped with Tamron’s proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism, which effectively reduces camera shake, especially when shooting at telephoto focal lengths or in low-light conditions. Additionally, the lens employs AI algorithms to automatically select the optimal VC settings for videography when shooting at focal lengths of 100mm or less. The autofocus system is driven by the VXD linear motor, providing fast and precise focusing across the entire zoom range.
Firmware updates can be done via the waterproof connector port, and the lens is compatible with Tamron's Lens Utility software, allowing users to customize functions like focus limiter, A-B focus, and focus presets.
