Exciting updates from Panasonic

Panasonic unveils exciting updates to its Lumix S and G series, including a new S5 model optimized for video, the release of the world's smallest zoom lens and new firmware enhancements for several popular cameras.

Advanced video capabilities of the Lumix S5D

The new Panasonic Lumix S5D is compatible with DJI’s LiDAR system, specifically designed to enhance focus capabilities. When paired with the DJI LiDAR Range Finder Module and DJI RS 3 Pro Gimbal, the S5D receives distance data via USB. This allows the camera to drive the focus directly, eliminating the need for a focus motor and making the setup more compact. Additionally, no lens calibration is required, which speeds up setup time. The system's high-speed 43,200-point LiDAR allows for quick autofocus, even in low-light situations, providing increased flexibility for videographers.

The Panasonic Lumix S5D is optimized for professional video production, supporting 4K 60p/50p 10-bit recording for up to 30 minutes and unlimited 4K 30p/25p 8-bit recording for extended shoots. For high-resolution work, it offers RAW video output up to 5.9K when connected to external recorders, enabling detailed control in post-production.

For versatile scene capture, the camera includes a Slow & Quick mode, allowing 4K recording at 1-60fps and FHD at 1-180fps for dynamic slow-motion and fast-motion effects. With 14+ stops of dynamic range from Panasonic’s VariCam technology, the S5D provides accurate color and skin tone reproduction through V-Log and V-Gamut, delivering cinematic quality with ease.

Its Dual I.S.2 stabilization system combines 5-axis in-body stabilization with compatible lens stabilization to capture smooth, stable footage even in low-light and handheld situations, making it ideal for creative videography on the go.

Panasonic introduces the world’s smallest and lightest zoom lens

The new Panasonic Lumix S 18-40mm F4.5-6.3 lens is the world's smallest and lightest zoom lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras and is a perfect match for the newly released Panasonic S9. Weighing only 155g, this ultra-wide to standard focal range covers 18mm to 40mm, making it versatile for capturing landscapes, buildings, and portraits. This compact lens also supports high-quality video with effective suppression of focus breathing, which minimizes changes in the angle of view during focus adjustments. Its durable design is dust, splash, and freeze-resistant, making it suitable for both photography and videography in various environment.

New firmware and new colour for Pansonic S9

In conjunction with the launch of the new lens and camera, Panasonic is also announcing several firmware updates. The new firmware updates bring targeted enhancements to the Lumix S9, S5II, S5IIX, and G9II cameras.

For the Lumix S9 (Firmware Version 1.1), the update adds an unlimited recording mode for extended video sessions and enhanced phase hybrid autofocus with new detection options for airplanes, trains, and specific vehicle parts. The camera also comes in a new stylish colour, Smokey White.

The Lumix S5II (Firmware Version 3.1) and S5IIX (Firmware Version 2.1) now include the Leica Monochrome photo style for a strong monochrome aesthetic and support for the latest Panasonic XLR microphone adapter, enabling high-quality audio capture.

The Lumix G9II (Firmware Version 2.2) gains compatibility with the Lumix Lab app for remote shooting and control, and, like the S5II/S5IIX, now supports the DMW-XLR2 microphone adapter for enhanced audio options.
