Samyang continues to develop versatile and dynamic zooms for the Sony E-mount. They previously released the popular 24-70mm F2.8, which was highly received for its great optical performance. Today they introduce an even more powerful and dynamic zoom - the new AF 35-150mm F2-2.8 FE. The new lens is a great all-around performer, equally good for photography as for shooting video. It’s a dynamic focal length that covers a wide range of shooting scenarios, from portraits to travel and from street to landscape.
The new lens has a maximum aperture of F2 at its widest and F2.8 at the telephoto end and covers the five most popular focal lengths 35, 50, 85, 135 and 150mm. With an optical lens construction that consists of 21 elements in 18 groups with a combination of 2 ASP, 1 HB, 3 H-ASP and 6 ED elements the lens produces a superior optical performance throughout the entire zoom range.
UMC (Ultra Multi-Coating) technology is applied to lenses to minimize flare and ghosting, helping to produce natural and clear images. The large aperture effectively helps to separate the subject from the background and 9 diaphragm blades creates a smooth and attractive bokeh.
The lens’ Linear Stepping Motor (STM) is fast and highly responsive to suit both photographers and videographers. It delivers excellent focus tracking and smooth transitions. When shooting video, the AF speed is more carefully adjusted to mimic the focus adjustment of a cinema lens. When switching to Linear MF, the focus control matches the torque of the focus ring as closely as possible to that of a manual focus. The lens has a digital parfocal design that is specialized for video. After focusing on the subject in MF mode, the focus doesn’t require adjusting again, even when zoomed in or out. This allows filmmakers to reduce shooting time and allow accurate and stable shooting.
Samyang has also managed to keep focus breathing to a bare minimum.
The lens is completely weather sealed and weather sealing is adopted in 11 areas of the lens to prevent damage or contamination from dust, light rain, and snow.
Custom switches and buttons on the lens's side allow the user to control the lens completely. Users can change their preferred functions via three custom switches.
With the switches the user can change functions such as, focus save, dolly shot, aperture ring and much. More features can be added in the future with the Samyang lens station.
MOD (Minimum Object Distance) is only 0.33m. Combined with the lens's fast aperture it produces a unique perspective close to the subject with a beautifully blurred background.
