Many parts of the country are facing unprecedented heat this summer. Exposure to extreme heat can be dangerous, even deadly, if you don’t take the proper precautions. At Ferrellgas, our teams work hard to make sure the strictest safety protocols are followed, no matter how hot or cold it is outside. The safety of our employees and our customers is our number one priority.
Propane tanks are designed to withstand all kinds of weather conditions, but hot weather can occasionally present some challenges. Extreme heat causes propane to expand, increasing the pressure inside the tank. The relief valve is designed to activate under these types of conditions to safely reduce pressure in the tank. If this happens, please contact Ferrellgas right away so we can send a qualified technician to your home to make sure your system is working properly.
Pests may also try to make nests in and around propane tanks in hot weather. Wasps love to build nests under the hood. You may also find snakes hiding there because it’s warm. Check your tank often for any pests, remove them if it’s safe to do so, or contact a pest removal service to get professional help.
It’s also important to ensure there is a clear path leading to your tank. Unlock any gates, secure any pets or animals that are usually outside, and clear any brush or vegetation from the area. Be sure your driveway is clear, too, so our drivers can safely park and make a delivery. Consider marking the location of your tank with a flag or a stake, especially if it is located underground.
At Ferrellgas, we strive to Fuel Life Simply for our customers. Following these simple steps can help your propane delivery go smoothly, no matter what the season. We hope you and your family stay safe this summer!
