Ferrellgas Marks the First Day of Spring

Spring is here, and that means it’s time for some spring cleaning! We’re not talking about cleaning out your closets or scrubbing the oven. Instead, propane customers should start thinking about cleaning up the area around their propane tank.

Winter winds may have blown trash, dry leaves, and other debris around your property. It’s important to remove those items, as well as any overgrown vegetation, from the area around your propane tank. If your tank is aboveground, you’ll want to clear anything within a 10-foot radius. This not only clears a path for our employees to reach and fill your tank, but it also keeps any flammable material away from the tank.

While you’re at it, take a look at the condition of your tank. Are there rust spots or areas where the paint is peeling? If you own your tank, you may want to consider painting it. Doing so not only protects the tank, but it also spruces up its appearance. You’ll want to choose a light, heat-reflective color. The most common tank colors are silver, white, and light gray.

Spring is also a great time to visually inspect the rest of your tank. Check under the dome for any insects or pests. Take a look at your tank’s location. Has it shifted out of place, even slightly? If it has, be sure to give Ferrellgas a call so we can inspect the fittings and other parts to be sure it is safe and fully operational. Additionally, if you use propane at a seasonal home, camp, or cabin that has been boarded up for the winter, you may also want to consider having one of our professionals inspect your propane-powered appliances.
