As a propane industry leader that has Fueled Life Simply for homeowners, business owners, and farmers for nearly 85 years, we understand that help is sometimes needed to pay for wintertime energy expenses. One way Ferrellgas employee-owners assist customers who might need additional help is by making them aware of various Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funding available in many U.S. states.
Created and administered by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, LIHEAP provides funds that can be used to pay a wide variety of home energy bills, including electricity, natural gas, and propane, as well as for weatherization and minor energy-related home repairs. And while a large percentage of these funds are allocated during the winter months, they can also be used to offset air conditioning expenses during the hot summer months. Approximately $3.7 billion in LIHEAP funding has already been made available for fiscal year 2024, which ends September 30, 2024.
In addition to this funding release, the U.S. Office of Community Services has launched a LIHEAP Eligibility Tool to help homeowners across the country quickly identify if they are eligible for energy assistance by inputting basic information like income and household size. A LIHEAP Heating Season Toolkit is another great resource that helps families who receive this funding stay safe and warm during the cold winter months. Information and downloadable materials are available in multiple languages.
