Euro Mine Expo, one of the premier trade fairs and conferences for the mining industry, opens Tuesday May 27 in Skellefteå, Sweden and features a wealth of innovative presentations, and cutting-edge technological demonstrations that will shape the future of mining. One of the standout features of this year’s Euro Mine Expo is the live remote drilling demonstrations.

Project manager Sinnika Sjunnesson emphasizes the significance of Euro Mine Expo for the Swedish mining sector.
“Euro Mine Expo is a vital platform for the Swedish mining industry,” says Sjunnesson.

Live remote drilling

One of the many standout features of this year’s expo is the live demonstration by Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions. Sandvik, in collaboration with its customer Boliden, will showcase the capabilities of the AutoMine® Surface Drilling automation system through live remote drilling demonstrations five times a day tuesday and wednesday.

This cutting-edge technology allows a single operator to control multiple drilling rigs from a comfortable and safe environment, whether within a visual line of sight or from a remote control room. From its stand at Euro Mine Expo, Sandvik will demonstrate how these remote solutions operate by conducting autonomous surface drilling at Boliden’s Kevitsa mine in Finland.

Battery Powered Scaling

In the conference – a different innovation, Eva Skinner and Anders Nilsson are leading the implementation of the world's first battery-powered scaling machine at Boliden's mines. This pioneering initiative represents a paradigm shift towards sustainability and innovation in the mining industry. By shedding light on their experiences, Skinner and Nilsson aim to provide valuable insights into the potential and challenges of introducing new technologies in mining.

E-Waste Processing

E-waste, generated from end-of-life electrical and electronic goods, is increasingly recognized as a valuable resource, offering a sustainable solution to waste management while addressing environmental concerns. Lindh's presentation focuses on the metallurgical processing of sorted e-waste, exploring its environmental footprint and the various emissions associated with the process.

Richard Lindh, Senior Sales Manager at Metso, brings his wealth of experience in metallurgical processing to the forefront in his presentation on e-waste materials. With a background in mechanical engineering and extensive involvement in copper smelting and precious metals refining projects, Lindh is well-equipped to delve into the technical aspects and environmental considerations surrounding the processing of e-waste.

Showcase the latest advancements

“Euro Mine Expo 2024 provides a unique opportunity for industry professionals to connect, exchange ideas, and showcase the latest advancements that drive our industry forward. This event plays a crucial role in fostering innovation and collaboration, ensuring that Sweden remains at the forefront of the global mining industry", says Sinnika Sjunnesson, project manager for Euro Mine Expo.
