Freedrum joins Brewhouse Inkubator

Freedrum is an innovative solution that links electronic drumsticks to an app that allows both beginners and experienced musicians to practise their drumming skills and learn to play new music, anytime, anywhere.

— Drum kits are generally large, loud, and expensive. That’s why we have created an instrument that’s quiet, portable and significantly less costly than a traditional drum kit, says George Charkviani CEO at Freedrum Studio.

The app takes learning to a new level as it offers a wide catalogue of licensed music. Whilst playing along to music, the user is given feedback in real time via statistics and insights on how to improve the drumming over time.

Freedrum has based their innovation on the parameters that playing should be possible ‘whenever and wherever’ without access to external equipment. A smartphone is all that’s needed.

— The innovation is built on Freedrum’s proprietary low cost - low energy 3D tracking solution that doesn’t rely on cameras or other optics. This is something we have a pending patent on in the US, says George Charkviani.

The idea behind the innovation was formed when one of the co-founder’s own children wanted to take up drumming and the challenges with the size, cost and noise that this posed. As a response, he created a simple prototype of the first version of Freedrum and started a crowd-funding campaign on Kickstarter.

At the end of the campaign, the product had been backed by more than 4000 people and a total collection of over 6 million SEK. This indicated both a demand and a customer base for the product that Freedrum was developing.

— I believe that the main difference between what we offer compared to other products, from the customers’ perspective, is how meticulous we are with the details of the hardware. We have placed utmost importance on ensuring that the product should feel like a genuine musical instrument and not a ‘toy’, continues George.

The third investment round will close shortly, and Freedrum Studio AB will now join Brewhouse Inkubator where they will be offered individual business coaching as a further step in the development of the company.

— It feels like the ideal time to join Brewhouse Inkubator. Both because we are closing an investment round and also because of Brewhouse Inkubator’s profiling towards Music Tech and the business-specific know-how and network that it results in, concludes George Charkviani.
