Avid Introduces Sibelius on Android and Chromebook

Seamlessly move between iPhone, iPad and desktop with Avid Sibelius

Industry-leading Music Notation Software for Composers, Publishers and Educators now available on any device

BURLINGTON, Mass., May 28, 2024 – Avid® has announced its music notation software Sibelius® is newly available for Android devices, extending professional music notation workflows to phones, tablets and Chromebooks for composers, orchestrators, arrangers, educators and students.

Available now, Sibelius for Android™ joins iOS and Desktop versions to allow users to move between Sibelius on different platforms. This latest addition completes Avid’s vision to offer Sibelius across Android phones, tablets, Chromebooks, iPhone, iPads, Mac and Windows for a truly cross-platform experience.

Both Android and iOS users can create new scores, edit existing ones, and review scores on the go. Actions like tapping or dragging notes, writing with a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, or using touch and styluses on mobile devices are all now possible, opening new opportunities and places to be creative.

Avid Director of Product Management for Sibelius, Sam Butler, explains, “With this release, our vision to make Sibelius available to anyone, from anywhere is now a reality. Music composition is no longer about just sitting in front of a piano or desktop, working on a score alone. Creators of all kinds have shifted to more remote collaboration and new workflows demanding more sharing and more flexibility.”

He continues, “Adding Android and Chromebook support, following Team licensing and Cloud Sharing updates in 2023, allows us to more directly support the evolving needs of educators, administrators, and students around the world.”

Sibelius for Android and Sibelius for iOS™ are both available for download from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store, respectively. They come at no additional cost to those already with a Sibelius desktop subscription, or a Sibelius perpetual license with an active Software Updates + Support Plan, allowing them to unlock the equivalent of their Desktop license functionality.

Sibelius is available in three tiers:

  • Sibelius First – ideal for beginner composers and smaller ensembles with up to four staves. Free to download.
  • Sibelius Artist – ideal for more seasoned hobbyists and includes additional features for ensembles up to 16 staves.
  • Sibelius Ultimate – ideal for professionals and hobbyists that need the most advanced composition features to work without limits.
