"Joar Nango's long-term project Girjegumpi, the Sámi Architecture Library, is an unprecedented effort to re-center indigenous culture and architecture into a global discourse around cities, design and public life.", Carlos Mínguez Carrasco, Head Curator at ArkDes.
Joar Nango is one of the few Sámi who hold a professional degree in architecture. Nango's project Girjegumpi is a mobile Sámi architectural library with 200+ titles addressing issues relevant to Indigenous architecture, resistance and decolonisation. The library moves to different temporary locations and hosts workshops, conversations and debates around the role of Sámi architecture’s tools and techniques in a rapidly changing world.
